Tart Cherries

Once known primarily as an ingredient for pie, Montmorency tart cherries (also called sour cherries) have become a favorite for high end chefs and ingredient users worldwide. Now they are also recognized as a super fruit known for their distinctive sour-sweet flavor and unique nutrient profile.

Found in dried, frozen and juice concentrate – tart cherries can be enjoyed year-round.

Today, more than 94 percent of tart cherries consumed in the U.S. are grown in the U.S. In fact, our region of Northwest Lower Michigan is considered the Cherry Capital of the World. Utah, Washington, New York, Wisconsin and Pennsylvania are other prominent tart cherry-producing states.

Dark Sweet Cherries

Dark sweet cherries are a summertime favorite for many people. There are several varieties of dark-sweet cherries, each planted to fit a certain climate and growing window. The most common varieties grown in our region are Ulsters, Sams, Vans, and Schmidts.

Leelanau Fruit Company dark sweet cherries are sweet and juicy with a hint of acid; each bite offers a little crunch, thanks to the fruit’s firmness. Sweet Cherries are ideal for toppings, baking, fruit salads or simply as a healthy snack.

Frozen Strawberries

Strawberries are known for their characteristic aroma, bright red color, juicy texture, and sweetness. They are mainly used in prepared foods, such as preserves, fruit juice, pies, ice cream, milkshakes, and chocolates.

Plums

Stanley and Damson Varieties are grown in the Northwest Michigan region. The taste of the plum fruit ranges from sweet to tart; the skin itself may be particularly tart. It is juicy and can be eaten fresh or used in jam-making or other recipes.

Peaches

Yellow fleshed clingstone peaches have a sweet acidic flavor. They are great for baking and for a healthy snack.

IQF Infused Blueberries

Cultivated blueberries are infused with sugar, drained and then Individually Quick Frozen. Great for all baking applications.

Tart Cherry and Cranberry Flake

Tart cherries and cranberries are pureed and dehydrated.  This shelf stable product has many applications.
